Tory to Speak on Scarborough Growth

SBA hosts mayor for March 2 lunch

The future of Toronto depends on the future of Scarborough.

Tory-headshot_250_313The Scarborough Business Association (SBA) is pleased to present Mayor John Tory, as the guest speaker at a “State of Scarborough” lunch, March 2.

This is a massive, complex city and we’re pleased the mayor has consented to come and share his thoughts on how Scarborough will grow and develop,” said SBA president Marg Middleton.

The lunch will be held at the Delta Toronto East, Kennedy Rd. in Scarborough, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.scarbroughbusinessassociation.com. Price SBA members: $60; non-members $75. Table and group purchases are available by calling 416-972-6482.

Mayor Tory has often shown his support for the Scarborough Business Association and it’s hoped this becomes an annual lunch – a signature event for the SBA, which formed last October.

Tory will speak on transit, development and the future of Scarborough.

One significant part of his transit agenda is the newly proposed transit plan for Scarborough. Working in conjunction with Tory’s SmartTrack plan for rail service from the downtown core through Scarborough, the new transit plan calls for a subways top at Scarborough Centre and Eglinton Crosstown LRT extension right through to U of T Scarborough’s campus.

The controversial plan is now before council.

As a business association we feel it is essential Mayor Tory speaks to the Scarborough community,” said Middleton. “This is the community’s chance to meet the mayor and ask Scarborough specific questions too.

Tory is Toronto’s 65th Mayor. He has an extensive background in community service. As a lawyer, talk show host, businessman, MPP and former leader of the Official Opposition at Queens Park, Tory has served the city with a high profile.
