Andrea Hazell - President
BMO

Andrea HazellCharismatic, powerhouse, Andrea Hazell is best known for her humanity, compassion and philanthropic work within her community and chosen profession. A tireless relationship builder, Andrea brings passion and purpose to everything she does.

During her 3 decades of experience in the financial industry, Andrea has held countless leadership roles within the Retail, Commercial and Wealth Banking arenas.

As Chair and Leader of the Caribbean Philanthropic Council for the past 5 years, Andrea has led an organization of dedicated individuals focusing on promoting health, wellness and philanthropy within the Canadian Caribbean community by hosting events that raise funds to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for Scarborough hospitals.

Andrea has been an active member of the Scarborough Business Association from its inception, bringing BMO Bank of Montreal in as a founding member. In 2017, she accepted the nomination to the SBA Board of Directors and was elected Vice President in 2018.

In November 2019, the SBA elected Andrea as President and chair. In her own inimitable fashion, Andrea will build on the good work of previous presidents, develop new ways to serve and increase membership, bring fledgling projects to fruition and create new initiatives. She is committed to helping the business community prosper by creating forums for networking, education and opportunity. The SBA is confident that Scarborough businesses will have no greater champion than Andrea Hazell.

Katie Fang - Treasurer
PwC LLP
Katie lives in Scarborough since her landing in Canada. She is a member of Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA, CGA) and is working in a hybrid Assurance and Tax capacity in the position with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). She is also a active member of PwC tax social committee, organizing various social events. She is passionate to bring her accounting expertise to help Scarborough community and the business in the area.
Ashwani Bhardwaj - Vice President

Ashwani Bhardwaj holds a Master's degree in English Literature and Law degree from India. In 1987, he started a professional real estate support services firm which focuses on providing services to the Real Estate Law firms in the field of title searching and closings in residential and commercial real estate. He is serving on the Board of Real Estate Council of Ontario since 2013 and President Rotary Club of Scarborough Bluffs 2016-2018.He served on the Community Advisory Group for RVHS from 2013-2016. His passion for serving the communities in Scarborough recognized and is awarded Canada 150 special Pin for his services.
Zuba Memon - Secretary
BDC
Zuba Memon has 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry in Canada, including progressive and diverse roles within the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) in sales, credit underwriting, business transformation and IT projects, and finally, leadership. Since 2017, she has been managing the Scarborough Business Centre of the BDC, leading a team of professionals dedicated to helping Canadian entrepreneurs achieve their goals through highly customized financing and advisory services.Zuba holds a BSc (Honours) degree in Economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan and a MSc in Finance with distinction from the University of Lancaster, UK.

Committed to doing her part to support and advocate for the Scarborough business community, Zuba is also a member of the Scarborough Community Renewal Organisation’s Economic Development Committee.

This success is shown by the numerous nominations for Broker of the Year (CMP). Shawn’s dedication to the industry has made him a major stakeholder in the Canadian Financing Landscape.

Raffy Chouljian

Dentist Dr, Raffy Chouljian has lived and worked in Scarborough since 1985. A tireless community advocate, Dr. Chouljian is dedicated to helping to build a strong Scarborough and a thriving Scarborough Business Association. He has served on the boards of countless community initiatives including: Scarborough Chamber of Commerce; Scarborough Rotary Passport Club; Ontario Dental Association; Toronto East Dental Society; Toronto Academy of Dentistry; Armenian Canadian Medical Association of Ontario; Canadian Armenian Medical Relief Committee of Ontario; West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre; Holy Trinity Armenian Church; and the Agincourt Collegiate Institute School Council.
Keith Nugara
SVP TELUS Financial Solutions

Keith Nugara was appointed Vice-President, Financial Services Market in January 2007. In this role, he was responsible for the growth and management of the Emergis’ bank-centric business in the financial services sector. He joined Emergis in 2001 and has since held various senior positions in the financial services group.
Mr. Nugara holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration from the University of Windsor. He received a Certificate for the completion of the Executive Leadership Program from the Rotman & INSEAD School of Business and completed the Harvard School of Business Executive Leadership Program. He has Co-chaired several United Way campaigns, TELUS Cares Events and ongoing JDRP Team Leader. He sits on the Board of the Providence Healthcare Foundation

 

Peter Haggert - Past President

Peter Haggert has been involved in the SBA since planning stages nearly four years ago. He is the director of Haggert Media Group, an organization providing business-to-business marketing planning, content and execution primarily for the Microsoft community of partners, events and consultants. This follows a 30-year career as editor in chief of daily and community newspapers and across Canada, including Metroland Media Toronto and the Scarborough Mirror. He is a director of both the Scarborough Business Association and a former director of  the Scarborough Walk of Fame.

Owner and president of Blue Umbrella Financial Services. Blue Umbrella Financial Services is an independent insurance brokerage that provides individual and corporate clients with a variety of medical, dental and group policies to meet their current and future needs. As a full service brokerage, Blue Umbrella Financial Services works with clients to tailor a policy for all of their risk management needs including Life insurance, Critical Illness, Disability, and Long Term Care Insurance. Blue Umbrella also provides financial services for retirement planning and educational savings.
Jamaal  Myers
TD Bank Group

Jamaal Myers is a solutions-driven legal professional with expertise in corporate law, governance and stakeholder management. He works at TD Bank as Legal Counsel and advises the bank on securities law, corporate governance and public disclosure. Before TD, Jamaal spent a year volunteering as a community organizer in Scarborough where he worked to improve the area's public transit network. Prior to this, he worked for 4.5 years as a corporate lawyer at two global law firms in New York City.

Jamaal currently serves as a director of Grace Foods Canada, a Caribbean based food manufacturer, and TAIBU, a community health center serving Malvern and Black Canadians living in the Greater Toronto Area. He received his BA from the University of Western Ontario, his MSc from the London School of Economics and his JD from New York University School of Law. He is a member in good standing of both the Ontario and New York bar associations.

Muhammad Saeed
Progress Career Planning Institute

Muhammad Saeed has been involved for over fifteen years in project management, group facilitations partnerships and community engagement. He has worked on different positions and has strong skills in proactively managing important and time sensitive projects, developing innovative solutions to critical problems, balancing stake holder’s expectations and working collaboratively with the team members for achievement of desired goals. He has Master’s in Public Administration and has certificates in project management, counseling and volunteer’s management. He has also served as a Board member of West Scarborough Community Legal Services. Currently he is working in areas of employment marketing and programs for youth.
